What is eligible?

Business and retail buildings within the designated part of the conservation area. A grant will contribute to the restoration of the exterior, bringing vacant floor space back into use as well as reinstating the architectural and heritage detail of the building. Grants are also available for the improvement of local facilities and gap sites within the designated area.

Who can apply?

Property owners or leaseholders with 25 of years left may apply. Grant payment will vary and can include professional fees incurred in the preparation of an acceptable scheme.

What work is eligible?

Work that can qualify for grant aid can include repairs to roofs, chimneys, stonework, brickwork, rendering, repointing, lead work, rainwater goods, windows, windowsills, doors, fanlights, ornamental features, etc.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the restoration of ‘lost’ architectural features, such as traditional Victorian shop fronts, wooden sash windows, cast iron railings restoration of previously removed or capped chimney stacks and similar features.

How to apply

1. Contact the address below to make initial enquiries.
2. Appoint an Agent to prepare specification of work to be carried out.
3. Arrange informal site visit with all parties.
4. Submit specifications for agreement.
5. After approval the specification is put out for tender.
6. The appropriate tender is selected with the approval of all involved.
7. The grant rate is decided and the work starts.

Note: Work started prior to the agreement and grant rate decision will not be covered.
