Tregaron Restoration Work Tregaron Restoration Work

Before

After

Situated on the southern side of the square, known as Sgwar Fach.

Restoration works were undertaken during the autumn of 2005. The works included the re-slating of the roof, using replacement second hand slates where necessary. The chimney was re-pointed using sand lime mixture. Lime rendering was also utilised on the front elevation. The front elevation windows were replaced. The shop window was replaced with one which was considered to be more in keeping with the traditional Victorian shop front of Tregaron, with a timber surround. A new timber door was installed, with the top half being in glass. The colour scheme was chosen by the proprietor and it involved the use of breathable paint. The removal of service provision apparatus from the walls was considered a priority and that has been carried out in association with a scheme of  Streetscene Improvement, see below. The projecting sign above the door has been specially designed and the shop is being advertised bilingually.

HAFDRE, THE SQUARE

HAFDRE, THE SQUARE - Refurbishment HAFDRE, THE SQUARE - Refurbishment

Before

After

Hafdre is a dwelling situated on the southern side of the main square of the town, bounded by the Talbot Hotel on the one side and the Council Offices on the other. Dampness problems were experienced at ground floor level and the building had in the recent past suffered from dry rot associated with neglect of the rainwater goods.

It was decided that in order to alleviate the dampness of the walls the cement render should be removed and replaced by lime render. The windows were to be restored and as much as possible of the existing timber retained. It was found on closer inspection that the box surrounding the sashes were beyond repair and they were replaced. Otherwise the sash windows were retained. The building was re-roofed and the chimneys were restored using locally sourced second hand bricks. The walls are decorated using lime colour wash.

This Scheme was grant aided by Ceredigion County Council and Cadw
